Chateau de Montpezat
Les Palombières
90-92/100

The 2004 Palombières has a dark purple color and a big, sweet nose of earth, chocolate, licorice, and spice box as well as a heady concoction of herbs and black fruits. Deep, medium to full-bodied, ripe, and nicely textured, it should drink well for 3-4 years. (Wine advocate issu 163, feb 2006)

Domaine de Montpezat
Cuvée Prestige 1999
91/100

A spectacular offering. This wine has been a bell-ringer in past vintages, and the 1999 is no exception. The Le Pin of the Languedoc, it is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Syrah aged in 50% new oak barrels. Extremely ripe, with notes of blackberries, crème de cassis and new oak, it is opulent, rich, viscous and full-bodled, with gorgeous fruit as well as a long finish. An amazingly serious wine, it will not age like a top-flight Bordeaux, but for drinking over the next 4-8 years, it is a marvelous effort. (Issu 135 - june 23th 2001)

Domaine de Montpezat
Cuvée Prestige 1996
90/100

Proprietor Christophe Blanc made a fabulous 1995, and followed that with a 1996 (which is a much more difficult vintage) that is nearly as thrilling. The 1996 is made from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% syrah. About the 60% of the malolactic fermentation is done in new oak barrels. Made from extremely low yields of 25-28 hectoliters per hectare, the wine is an impressively extracted, rich, complete, ambitious, medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, blockbuster offering from southern France. It boasts a saturated purple color, as well as an impressive, spicy, pain grillé, and cassis-scented nose, terrific fruit on the attack, high levels of glycerin, medium to full body and a moderately structured slightly tannic yet opulent finish.
Domaine de Montpezat is unquestionably one of the top estates making vin de pays d'Oc wines in France. (Issu 117 - june 26th 1998)

Domaine de Montpezat
Cuvée Prestige 1995
92/100

This amazing wine is a must-buy for lovers of full-throttle, super-concentrated, and highly-extracted, rich, red wines.
Made primarily from Syrah, with a small quantity of Cabernet-Sauvignon added to the blend, this opaque black/purple coloured wine tasted more like a high-class Bordeaux than a Rhône.
The wine was aged in 60% new oak casks and 40% one-year old casks. It exhibits a gorgeously rich, vanillin, lead-pencilled, cassis-scented nose, full-bodied, highly-extracted, concentrated flavors with plenty of depth, and moderately high levels of sweet tannin. Made in an international style, this is a medium to full-bodied, exuberant, dramatic wine with an impressive finish that lasts for nearly 30 seconds.
Only 250 cases were culled out of the estate's production and bottled with no fining or filtration for the American importer. Look for this wine to age effortlessly for a least a decade. A superb value. (Issu 111 - june 26th 1997)

Guide Hachette des vins 2000
Château de Montpezat 1997

"Christophe Blanc has chosen to produce his wines from very small yields. It is one of the secrets of his success. This 1997, with its purple robe, is concentrated and very mature. The red fruits are accentuated with spices, liquorice, vanilla and an original touch of mint, with a pinch of chocolate. It is round in the mouth, fatty, full, vanilla-flavoured, powerful and silky, almost as long as eternity. The oak flavour is delicately dosed."

Guide Hachette des vins 99
Les Raisins du Grand Maïeul 1996

"Pézenas is still the charming city that Molière chose for his famous theatre. After having visited it, be sure to discover the wines of this estate, just 5 km away. Syrah and Grenache are used in equal quantities for this Grand Maïeul with its brilliant deep red colour. Its fine and pleasant aroma of red berries gives way to a full and round flavour."

Guide Hachette des vins 97
Château de Montpezat

"An exceptional wine, with its bouquet of cloves, pepper and cumin. Its aromatic complexity follows in the mouth, but the final notes are still a little dry - it would be best to leave it somewhat longer. The Mourvèdre has no fear of time."

Guide Hachette des vins 96
Domaine de Montpezat
Cabernet Sauvignon 1993

"Fruit, spices, and some animal notes follow the taster in the discovery of this pleasing wine, already well structured and supple."

Guide Hachette des vins 95
Domaine de Montpezat
Aged in oak 1991

" Christophe Blanc produces this wine with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet-Sauvignon. The deep garnet red colour, the intense, vanilla nose, do not hide the ageing in oak. This powerful wine has a good framework with sustained tannin."
